THE CHALLENGE
In 2023, a hospital system conducted a deep inspection of rooms after patient discharge cleaning and found HAI pathogens, including Clostridium difficile (C. diff), in 44% of cleaned rooms. The hospital system switched to disposable microfiber mops to help eliminate cross-contamination risks from freshly laundered mops. Most hospital EVS teams also experience frequent inventory shortages and excessive loss/replacement charges resulting from outsourced laundering.
OUR SOLUTION: Advantex® Mopping Solution™
The Hospital System transitioned from laundered mops to the Advantex® Healthcare Floor Solution (Advantex® Single-use Microfiber Mops, Advantex® Mop Frame, and Telescoping Aluminum Handle System). The data presented in this case study was collected in 2024 and compared with data from 2021-2023.

PATIENT ROOM FLOOR CHALLENGE
First, the EVS team cleaned a patient room with a laundered mop system and let the floor air dry. Then, again, clean the same patient room floor with an Advantex® single-use microfiber mop system. The Dallas hospital system was astounded by the Challenge results! The Advantex® microfiber mop was visibly filthy and provided undisputable evidence that Advantex® Mops vastly outperformed laundered mops. Advantex® mops deliver the most solution per single-use mop to achieve coverage for an entire patient room (up to 250 sq. ft. per mop), and combined with the Advantex® frame, provides even cleaning coverage over the entire floor surface.
IMPROVED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
By converting to the Advantex® Healthcare Floor Solution, “we have reduced our environmental footprint. We have significantly lower environmental impact by having substantially less water wasted. The EPA TRACI model analysis on the global warming potential also indicates less environmental adverse implications as compared to laundering mops”.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Converting to the Advantex® Healthcare Floor Solution and eliminating mop laundry services was budget-neutral. However, by reducing floor pathogens, the hospital system lowered the occurrence of HAIs. This hospital system reported that the average HAI cost was over $45,000 per incident. The estimated reduction in HAIs has had a significant positive financial impact on the hospital system.
